Letter to Editor on Sales Tax Increase in City of Monterey, CA

Fiscal emergency shows city’s ineptitude

As the city of Monterey votes on declaring a fiscal emergency based on a study done by a private “neutral” firm, we are reminded of the city’s financial ineptitude.

Not only will they vote on whether or not to declare a fiscal emergency, but they will also be voting on creating an emergency election asking us, the taxpayers, to front the bill. They want to raise the sales tax another .5 cents to the dollar. They are voting on declaring the fiscal emergency, just to ask the taxpayer to pay more sales tax in a city that has shown to consistently mismanage taxpayer money.

Where is all of the money going that tourism has generated for the city? Where is all of the money going that taxpayers already pay?! The declaration of a fiscal emergency is an attempt of the city of Monterey to pull one over on its citizens. This has been going on for decades, and we must stop this now.

We must stand up against the City Council and hold them accountable for their lack of fiscal responsibility. We will not let this money grab go unnoticed.

Letter to Editor — Open Borders

November 25, 2019 Comments Off on Letter to Editor — Open Borders By Lawrence S

What open borders don’t mean

There are many misconceptions about the concept of open borders. Classical liberals, who support the freedom of movement, favor a world where people can freely travel from one country to another.

However, open borders do not mean that travelers should be given special rights in the nation they have chosen to enter.  For instance, when Kate Steinle was accidentally killed by an undocumented foreigner, the self-confessed killer was granted the right to kill someone with few legal consequences. If any American citizen accidentally killed another, that person would be convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Not Garcia Zarate. He only received a two-year sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm, which was eventually overturned.

Nor does open borders mean that foreigners should gain free education, housing, and medical care, privileges that many American citizens do not possess. And nor should foreigners get the right to vote.

If legal and illegal foreigners keep receiving special rights beyond those of local citizens, there will be an ugly backlash and open borders will die.  In a civilized world, people have the right to visit or stay in other countries, but not to the detriment of the citizens they have chosen to visit.

Join us for Movie Night: Showing: Little Pink House – Friday, Aug. 30, 2019 at 6 PM

Location: Peace and Justice Center, 1364 Fremont Blvd., Seaside at 6:00 PM. We will provide pizza and popcorn. Please RSVP

This award-winning feature film is about taking from the poor and giving to the rich. Little Pink House tells the true story of Susette Kelo, who bought and fixed up a rundown cottage in New London, Connecticut.  In 1998, pharmaceutical giant Pfizer wanted to build offices for their nearby plant, and the City decided it would be a better use of the land than as a blue-collar neighborhood. The City handed over its power of eminent domain to the New London Development Corporation (NLDC), a private body, to take the entire neighborhood, justifying it with the nebulous claim of “economic development.”

Susette Kelo refused to give up her home and sued, all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. In 2005, the Court, in a 5–4 decision, ruled in favor of the City of New London. The principal dissent was issued by Justice O’Connor, joined by Chief Justice Rehnquist and Justices Scalia and Thomas. The dissenting opinion suggested that the use of this reverse Robin Hood practice — take from the poor, give to the rich — would become the norm. They wrote: “Any property may now be taken for the benefit of another private party, but the fallout from this decision will not be random. The beneficiaries are likely to be those citizens with disproportionate influence and power in the political process, including large corporations and development firms.” As the neighbors of Kelo’s Little Pink House found out, when private entities wield government’s awesome power of eminent domain, all homeowners are in trouble.

New Book —Killing History: The False Left-Right Political Spectrum

If the two polar opposites are Communism versus Fascism, what is in the middle? Is everyone not on the extreme ends half communist and half fascist? Nobody believes that, but the old yet current political spectrum prescribes that exact political scenario. So what happened? In an effort to rewrite history, the political dichotomy has been deliberately broken, falsified, sabotaged, and made meaningless, causing the public to lose their way through the contorted political maze.

With well over 1,500 footnotes from historians and political scientists, this book refurbishes the political spectrum and restores it to its original French Revolution roots and a common sense approach. Now anyone can navigate the political swampland with a faithful compass to triangulate one’s own political position, and peel back layers of distorted history.

Some of the lesser-known historical facts revealed in this book include Mussolini’s two decade advocacy of Marxism, where for over six years he was both a Marxist heretic and an Italian Fascist, combined into a Fascist–Marxist duopoly and ideology. In 1919 a red armband-wearing Hitler became an elected official in the communist-run Bavarian Soviet Republic. He later proclaimed himself a “Social Democrat.” Most of the major Nazi and Fascist leaders were Marxists, or hard-core socialists who opposed both the bourgeoisie and capitalist Jews.

Letter to the Editor on Socialism

Monterey Herald, published June 6, 2019

America will reject socialism, again

The Heralds’ commentary “Boos for a slam on socialism by our state Dems” is correct in its position that most Americans view socialism as abhorrent and tyrannical. Our American anti-socialist attitude intensified after we were forced to spill blood and resources to fight the armies of socialism in Europe during World War II.

Joseph Goebbels famously framed World War II in 1939 as a battle between capitalism and socialism. Not long after National Socialist Germany invaded Poland, Goebbels declared that “England is a capitalist democracy. Germany is a socialist people’s state” and “English capitalists want to destroy Hitlerism.”

Hitler made a similar statement in 1941. After gloating over his past military victories against the West, he proclaimed that “It is already war history how the German Armies defeated the legions of capitalism and plutocracy.”

Indeed, if the Democrats want to win big in the next political bout, they should steer clear of embracing any variant of socialism. Socialism has always been the enemy of a free American republic.

The State of New York Devolves into Fascist Extremism

Submitted on Tue, 2018-08-28 09:18

By L.K. Samuels

It is now official. The state of New York and Governor Andrew Cuomo have decided to embrace the ugly specter of fascist extremism. A statist Leftist, Andrew Cuomo has spearheaded an anti-human rights and anti-Founders campaign to extinguish an advocacy group through government intimidation, regulations, and threats, a tactic often employed by the National Socialists of Germany to affirm the supremacy of society over individual rights.

Fortunately, the ACLU has found these government-funded strong-arm tactics to be problematic and unconstitutional, declaring: “Although public officials are free to express their opinions and may condemn viewpoints or groups they view as inimical to public welfare, they cannot abuse their regulatory authority to retaliate against disfavored advocacy organizations and to impose burdens on those organizations’ ability to conduct lawful business.”

In this case, that advocacy group is the National Rifle Association (NRA), but it could be any educational or advocacy group that actively espouses change. In early August, Cuomo bragged about taking down the NRA via government regulations on his Facebook post, declaring: “The regulations NY put in place are working. We’re forcing the NRA into financial jeopardy. We won’t stop until we shut them down.” This has a chilling effect on free speech for every group and institution, left or right, since this precedent will encourage all politicos to silence or abolish an opponent’s ability to express their opinions.

This case is obviously beyond the pale. How can a government agency compel banks, financial institutions, and insurance companies to dismiss an advocacy group as a customer? This is a blatant violation of constitutional laws and protections, especially the First Amendment. The state of New York is using its vast legal and taxing power to punish political enemies. Only a Fascist-Marxist ideologue would employ the power of the state to silence private organizations they deem adversaries. They are simply outlawing their political opponents without actually legislating laws that explicitly make them illegal.

The New York State attack against free exchange went into high gear when Maria Vullo, head of the state’s Department of Financial Services, sent out threatening letters to businesses in New York. Vullo demanded that companies sever connections with pro-Second Amendment groups. In many cases, the government threats worked to scare off business vendors. A number of banks withdrew banking services while insurance companies decided not to renew liability insurance.

Of course, two can play this anti-free speech game. Tit for tat reprisals are notoriously ugly and damaging. Conservative governors and agencies might unleash their enormous bureaucracies and attorneys to go after the banks and insurance companies that associate with opposing advocacy groups. If this were to happen, all hell would break loose across the political spectrum as society grows more polarized, if that is even possible.

When it comes to keeping the political environment free of censorship, the golden rule of ACLU’s legal director David Cole is indispensable: “The First Amendment bars state officials from using their regulatory power to penalize groups merely because they promote disapproved ideas.”

A slippery slope always arises when government decides to weaponize its political arsenal to attack political enemies. And such a chain of related events has the potential to destroy the core values of the First Amendment that could lead to the fascistization of America. But then again, like the censorship transgressions on college campuses, maybe the stifling of free speech is precisely the purpose of Cuomo’s agenda.
