Lawrence Samuels, Chair

Lawrence Samuels is editor and contributing author of Facets of Liberty: A Libertarian Primer his magnum opus book, In Defense of Chaos: the Chaology of Politics, Economics and Human Action, which can be found at his website: He was elected Chairman of the Project Area Committee (PAC), a citizens committee to advise the Seaside Redevelopment Agency and the city of Seaside over eminent domain issues. He is co-chair of Libertarians for Peace of Monterey County and vice chair of Seaside Taxpayers Association. He was the Northern California Vice Chair of the California Libertarian Party for four years. He is the winner of the 2007 Karl Bray Memorial Award. He managed the Future of Freedom Conference series for five years in Southern California during the mid 1980s. He helped found Rampart Institute with Robert LeFevre in 1980 and eventually became its president. An occasional writer for, he is the Chairman of FED-UP (, a local anti-drug war organization. He is secretary of the G16 Coalition, an organization to prevent Carmel Valley from turning into a city, and vice president of the Brookdale Homeowners Association. Contact: laws.

James King, Vice Chair

A true renaissance man, with a BA in English from Boston University, James King has been a stockbroker, Realtor, retail manager, and businessman, among other things. In the Monterey-Salinas area, King owned and operated Sunshine Freestyle Sports, which sold skiiing and surfing equipment. From 1998 to 2005, he taught English and Special Education in the Salinas High School District.
